Indicators of the European aluminium industry (EAA)

The 34 indicators of the European aluminium industry are gathered in 11 categories, covering the economic, environmental and social dimensions of sustainability.

"Sustainability for European Aluminium" is the first report of this groundbreaking exercise on sustainable development indicators officially released in 2004, in which the data for each indicator were collected. This document contributes to the industry's credibility by providing, for each indicator, precise data for the years 1997 and 2002.

This report marked an important step in the Aluminium for Future Generations programme and the commitment taken to improve the sustainability of the European aluminium industry. This exercise was beneficial to all parties involved. It applied to both the larger aluminium companies - which were taking it from a more global perspective to their local plant and community levels - as well as to SME's who are increasingly becoming aware of sustainable development and what it can mean for them. Together with the various national aluminium associations, this pro-active approach leads to a strengthening of the European aluminium industry position and to an undeniable increased credibility.

The EAA will continue to work on its commitment towards sustainable progress and intends to release its next sustainability report in 2006.

The following list is currently being revised on the basis of stakeholder input and experience from the first EAA suvey.
